The first example is due to a bad camera angle, so I'll cop to that. The Hulk
has both arms forward of his vertical center line - note the forward
motion speed lines on both - which would have been more obvious had I
swung the camera a bit more to the right.

On the second page, it seems to me that it is obvious that he's running
with both arms forward.

If you search, I am sure you will find examples of my having made this
not uncommon mistake -- but these aren't among them.

the 2nd example is a dream sequence, though, so it's Banner's a distorted view of reality.  hence, the awkward running motion of the Hulk is JB's way of letting the reader know that something is different.

I'll eagerly await my No Prize!!!

Okay, back on Thread Topic…

Here's something that bugs me. This is the upcoming DC Direct "Batman
Family" statue, which comes in multiple pieces that have to be "collected".

Generally speaking, pretty nice piece. Might be tempted, but… who's that
over at extreme right, sharing a base with Commissioner Gordon (so you can't
get Gordon unless you buy her, too)? Why, it's the new, gimmicky, been-in-
the-family-all-of-ten-minutes Lesbian Batwoman! The other characters --
especially Gordon! -- could be argued to have earned their place here. But
this new Batwoman?

This is something DC seems to do all too often (with Marvel trailing not far
behind). WHO'S WHO was full of flash-in-the-pan characters whose
presence in the DCU lasted barely a minute longer than it took to get them in
WHO'S WHO. (Remember Kil%ore? And would someone pronounce that aloud
for me?)

So, sure, I understand the mentality. We have to pretend, at least, that all the
characters are every bit as "real" as each other. That Booster Gold is as real
and valid as Batman, for instance. But if we are putting together a set of
figures representing the "Batman family" and Gordon is in there, before we
stick in this brand new and pretty much unproven Batwoman, shouldn't we
maybe look to others from the book's long history. Alfred, say?

What is the point of this excercise regarding characters running?  To prove JB's made a mistake or two in his 35 years of drawing comics professionally? The man has admitted as much time and again.  Or is it to prove something else?*  JB recognized a mistake in the way the figures were situated -- one that he has noted before and admitted to making himself -- and this requires crusaders . . . why?  The internet continues to baffle me . . . .

*I am not saying anyone has a bad intent -- I just don't get this interest in these kind of "gotcha" questions/posts.

To be fair, Geoff, I asked for examples. It's just the the images posted are
not, in fact, examples.

Understood.  But the first question, before your request, was a "gotcha" question -- and thats kind of what I don't get. Whats the purpose?

*And I am also self aware enough to recognize that maybe I've unwittingly asked such questions which is why I don't assume bad intent.

I agree with everything JB said about this! I'm generally not a fan of assembly-required/separate purchase statues, but the Bat family one would almost...ALMOST... get me to crack -- if they'd only reconsidered the character selection.

The second page posted is indeed the one I had in mind, and there is no "gotcha" attitude on my part. I just remembered something that seemed odd to me.
Back to toys and stuff now...

JB,

I have those Hulk issues as well as your runs on FF,X-men and Avengers West Coast. Back then I always looked forward to the issues you illustrated and found them to be a cut above in my opinion over some of the other guys illustrating comics at the time.  Anyways I'm not really seeing any issues with these issues..ha.. i made a pun!.

Round 2 are re-releasing the old AMT/ERTL "UFO Mystery Ship" - designed by Matt Jeffries, and the inspiration for the INSS McArthur from "The Mote in God's Eye":

I've got to get at least one of these!
