The way Kirby drew it.

And then there's this cover...which is a Kirby piece inked by Darwyn Cooke.

I always think of JK Collector as serving up "original" versions more than some mandated version...was this drawn with Kirby-style S, or did Kirby just relinguish that fight? Or is this an "adjusted" version?

I don't think there was ever a "fight". Kirby drew what Kirby drew. It's kinda
funny how this has become some kind of rallying point for the fans, when
you consider how much Sinnott redrew on FANTASTIC FOUR.

My Bowen Doctor Doom, I just wish the hood around his head had been made bigger.

Mine was ordered last week as well.

Doom's hood there kinda reminds me of The Spectre. It's still a darn good sculpt though.

This panel from the issue of SUPER POWERS I have, still in pencil form,
shows Kirby essaying a more traditional approach to the S emblem -- but
still not quite getting the forms.

It was typical of Kirby's approach that he did not draw characters exactly
the same way, issue to issue (and sometimes panel to panel!). This
becomes most obvious, I have found, when he draws characters he did
not create, or with which he is not usually associated. In this case, God is
definitely not in the details!

(In later years, as when he did the panel above, he was having vision
problems, and things were starting to skew oddly on the page, which in
an of itself no doubt accounted for some of the "off" interpretations.)

The final issue of the first "Super Powers" mini and the entire second mini the following year features some great Kirby work.  I just wish I still had the figures to go with them.  I had the whole collection once upon a time. >sigh<

Finally tracked down the New Gods figures based on Kirby's art.  I picked up Darkseid tonight.  Here he is in my little mini-Kirbyverse figure collection between Orion (from a different set) and Etrigan:

Anybody know about the glove the Darkseid figure comes with?  What story is that from?  I don't recall him ever using a special glove...

Geez, I don't know if I'd call it "great". Maybe if the inks had helped (like Sinnott)...
Still, it's an amusing batch of books. The sad thing was that as a 10-year old, the late Kirby art was not appealing by any means. I quickly got rid of those books because I thought they were horibly ugly, only to re-buy them last year.

and, yes, I have all the figures...
How I love them so!!!

I got lucky this week and picked up some new Mighty Muggs, they seem to disappear real fast. Here's Captain America, The Hulk, Doctor Doom, and The Thing.
