Wayne,

Have you considered utilizing the power of this board to assemble a 'street team' to promote FX? This is the perfect opportunity to impelment some guerilla marketing tactics.

One thing you might consider is creating a pdf  flyer/ info package for FX. Put the pdf here on the board and have the board members take the pdf to Kinko's and print out copies to take to their LCS.

My LCS likes me enough they'd let me put a stack on the counter (and I bet I'm not the only one on this board).

Maybe put on it an 'order form' they could fill out and give to the retailer so he has a better idea how many to order.

You could cover a lot of ground and it would cost you nothing except the effort of putting the PDF together.

Also, John's suffered at the hands of inkers lately, so some previews of the art might win over some orders. People on the web who've panned John's comic work (grudgingly) rave over his comissions.

Anyway , this is just my 2 cents. I wish you the best of luck with this project!

Continued congratulations, Wayne, for every step forward this dream keeps taking!

All told, this will amount to something like a year's worth of dream work-- getting to be JB's collaborator, day after day on your creation until it's completely out the door.  Spread the costs over that amount of time and I think you are getting a bargain as far as "dreams come true" go.  Pennies-per-minute.  Then, just imagine if it actually MAKES money!  My head spins thinking about it.  I'm inspired by this project, Wayne.  Good job!

I could get this in front of a couple hundred thousand webcomics fans if
you guys will have some form of online ordering! I'm sure it's worth the
plug.

Got a chance to leaf through Dave Pruitt's copy of the ashcan at Baltimore Con today.  Looks great, Wayne!

Wayne,

What's the basic premise of F/X? I love the art JB's shown us, and I'm eager to see the final product.

Just to add to the quality of, not only the art, but the story/writing of FX -- I, too, have seen an ash-can copy and find all the same positive qualities that were noted at the start of the thread -- BUT -- my 10 yo son has also read it - and (as I told Wayne) as he read it he was saying things like "cool" - "oh, what an excellent power" - "that looks so cool" ---- so I was very happy to relay to Wayne that his books has the potential to really make some noise with the existing "John Byrne" fan base AND with a target market if younger readers, also.

I'm really hoping that the publisher puts some faith in this project and advertises it as it deserves -- it could be a sleeper hit !!

Thomas - FX is about a kid who gets the power that whatever he pretends;
flying like an airplane, shooting a machine gun, being bionic, etc. actually
happens when he goes through the motions of pretending; making the
sounds and the motions.

Richard - thanks for the generous offer of help. I'll see what I can do
regarding a website and online ordering.

And thanks again to the rest of you for the kind words.

WO
