Chris also wrote a pretty kick-ass sequel to this story in Uncanny X-Men.
Anyway, this piece was unexpected....I really like the wispy hair you gave her
here...that's the sort of thing I missed when you were experimenting with
inking with a sharpie - hair tended to seem too solid and heavy to me.

Eye of the beholder, Vinny. The weight of pen point I used on this piece is identical to that found in a Sharpie. One of the things I like about the PITT pens, in fact, is that the non-brush points are very much like Sharpies, in the kinds of line they deliver.

Beautiful piece JB and very fine line work. Your recent work just serves to remind us lesser mortals how fine an artist you are.

Amazing. One of the best Sonja's ever! Her face is exotic, neither strictly European nor Asian.
Her body is wiry, not Frank Thorne Buxom, which is consistent with speed and power. Her bosom has a gentle downward slope instead of the "flotation device" profile.
The decapitated head is the cherry on the icing (try and find that line anywhere else!).
The line is interesting too. It seems thinner and looser than typical for these commissions. There's a feeling of spontaneity about it.

The inking looks different to my eye on this one.

The
difference being that Sonja is a lean, mean fighting machine, not an
anorexic clothes horse. Frank Thorne notwithstanding, I can't imagine
the character having an ounce of fat to spare.
My reference point for the ultimate lean, mean, fighting female is Sarah Connor from Terminator 2. She was thin... I think you could see distinct ribs. But not anorexic in the least. I'd expect Red Sonja to be built similarly. She's younger, so maybe a little more babyfat in spots...

And this is what made me first consider if it was done in pencil...
