Oh I LIKE the Racer. I mean death is a dude in armor on flying skis who chases even er...divine kids and sleeps in a coma victim. Ooh!
Good stuff.
In fact it's kind of inspired! Almost like something you might remember from a dream or see just for a moment reflected in a hospital room window when waking up from the anaesthesia!
Brr!

Brian Talley: ROGER OTT???? Roger FREAKING Ott???? Holy crap...welcome back, son. Damn glad to see ya!!!
Thanks! Nice to see a lot of familiar "faces" again. I've missed out on seeing a ton of cool commissions, too, by the sound of it.

For those interested in such things, these are the covers I requested Byrne's interpretation of:

I've been away all day so it was a nice suprise to see this commission completed when I got home...and already with over a page of comments for me to read!
As anyone who has visited my CAF gallery knows, I love JB's take on the 4th World characters. A couple months back I was reading Simonson's Orion series when I decided for sure I wanted my next JB commission to feature 4th World characters.
Thanks JB!

Orion is one of my favorite DC characters, ever. The original grim and gritty anti-hero, but ahead of its time, so he didn't seem overdone.

Oh, and Frank Springer - incidentally, it's weird reading Neal Adams Batman and have it be interrupted by Springer. Almost enough to give you a heart attack!

JB,
Other than the covers I mentioned above, what (if anything) did you use as your primary references for this piece?

After significant staring at this piece and drooling I thought I would mention some things I'm noticing that I really like:
1. I like how the Black Racer's "path" stratches across the entire top portion of the art.
2. I like the landscape layout for this one, I had a feeling JB might go that way with it.
3. I love how JB really filled the page on this one!
4. Byrne Rubble!!!
