Gerry: Sorry to hear about this.
JB: You epitomize class and professionalism.

Wow. That's horrible!
The JB piece will be much better anyway.

I can only imagine what lies in store for your friends. Golden is being very foolish. Newsarama already ran one story about this. He must know there will be another.
He will lose a fortune in business. Many of you know that I commission a lot of art, from JB and many others. Golden lost my business as a result of what happened to Gerry.

Word of mouth is probably the most important thing for the business of an artist in the commissioning business. I've never been particularly a Golden fan myself and he really wasn't on my commissioning radar but there is no way I would consider giving him any money after hearing this and I think many more will think the same way. Spread the word.

That's a hell of a way to exit the commissions business.

I have to say that is downright deplorable. My opinion of Michael Golden has dropped considerably.
Is there a way you can take him to court, being that you are in another country?

Art is so subjective I would think it would be difficult to make a legal issue out of this. I think Gerry should just let him know what a huge jerk he is and see how he responds. Either way I think his commissioning business over.

Gerry make this as public as you can, including JB's
astonishing offer!
Golden's actions are probably the most disgusting example
I've seen (and illustrated to boot!) of a "Bad Byrne"
story! I'd planned on picking up Golden's 'Modern Master'
book this week; not anymore.
What a pig to treat a fan who forked over their hard
earned cash as unprofessionally (in terms of missing set
deadlines, Witterstater's excuses) and rudely (in the
piece itself) as he has.
Doesn't seem to me that he can pass it off as a bad mood
thing either seeing as how he went to the trouble of
inking it and presenting it to his agent to post off.
This SHOULD be worth an article on Newsarama or CBR or
The Comics Journal etc. but sadly as you have proof of
JB's exemplary actions and Golden's disgraceful actions I
fear it'll be deemed unnewswor

I'd take Golden's ass to court if I received a commission like that, and I bet I'd win. No offense, Joe, but "art is subjective," my ass. That was malicious. Anybody can see that.
Gerry, what did you request as your commission? I am betting that it wasn't Doctor Strange lecturing you and giving you a raspberry.

Gerry, write "Comics Buyer's Guide," Newsarama, Comic Book Resources, "The Comics Journal," "Wizard maagzine," and any other industry magazine or major web site with comics news and tell them the facts, and send that picture along. Don't assume they won't be interested in an article about this. Other people should be warned as much as possible about what they might get from Mr. Golden.
