I did reject it, Brian. Didn't even consider it really, as it's out of my league. That's why I opted for a pencil sketch for $100, which I was happy with (posted a few pages back). Having the same figure inked for another $350 would be crazy, far as I'm concerned.

One of the things I appreciate most about JB character poses(and I own several) is how hard John tries to fill the page. The different way these two artists approach commissions is very telling

Yeah, that was a real classy excuse. Art boards do have spell-checkers:
they're called dictionaries, and you can pick one up for a couple of bucks
that would show the correct way to spell "virtue".
(Again, my definition and Mr. Golden's definition of "professional" diverge at
this point: I would assume that a professional producing a piece for a paid
commission would take the time to review his pencil work spelling before
inking it in).
If you're going to preach at someone, at least get the words right...

J.B. and other working artists out there correct me if i'm wrong. If someone pays you to do a piece of work for them and you make an error on the piece. Something you can't cover up or fix. Aren't you responsible for fixing said problem? I mean when I was doing the freelancer thing. That's how i always felt. So as Mr.Golden himself pointed out he misspelled Virtue .I'm thinking oh well that means do the piece over. Atleast I'm thinking and professional would do that.

The claim that Doc Strange isn`t blowing a raspberry is a bit suspect too.it sure looks that way to me,thumb on nose,waving fingers etc.

The answer is simple: if he doesn't give you a refund, then sue him. While I know that most people find lawsuits repugnant, but this situation is not frivolous. He took your money and then intentionally delivered something below reasonable expectations and defaced it with a personal message as retaliation. This is exactly the kind of situation that lawsuits were created for. If this were a housing contractor or carpenter doing this it wouldn't be tolerated. Michael Golden shouldn't get a pass because he is an artist and thinks he can get away with it. He should be made an example of to others. And Renee has no basis to say she has nothing to do with anything because she brokered the deal and took your money so you should go after her too. It's tough, but that's life.

One of the many reasons I don't like it when the
customer tries to "write" the piece. Take a "stroll"
thru the single figure folder in the Gallery, and if you
come to a piece where the space on the page is not
exploited as much as it can be, chances are the
customer defined the pose, rather than leaving it to
me.

I always felt ambiguous about Golden´s art. There was always a "whimsy" to it that was out of place in super-hero work. I was really impressed by his recent (two years ago, or more) Nightwing covers, though.
After this, I wouldn´t even say "Hello" to him.
