A classic run. I remember collecting them as they came out. Definitely worth reading and rereading.

Stop the press! Ari, you are required by law to find and read the entire run of Thor by Walt Simonson right now. Leave work, don't talk to the wife and kids, don't even eat or sleep. Get moving now!!!

Thanks Paulo! I've never read the Simonson run, so I would not know that! |

No problem, but give Walt's THOR a try, if you have an interest in the character.

I've seen some art from the run, but never actually sat down and read it, whcih is unusual as I am a fan of Walt's(who isn't, the man is a god)

Stop posting, Ari. Go now. The comic book police will be at your office any second to arrest you.

That is fairly unusual. It's his most acclaimed work, probably.

This was my favorite of the DeFalco/Frenz team's attempts to do a fun, "old school" superhero comic book. Frenz never looked better than when Joe Sinnott was inking him, and the big, bold stories were just the right mix of action and melodrama. Fans of Spider-Girl should definitely check this run out.

At the time, I thought it really suffered in comparison to what had gone before (Walt Simonson and Sal Buscema). Now that I'm a little older and a little wiser, I can appreciate Frenz's work for what it was. He and writer Tom DeFalco weren't trying to follow in the footsteps of Simonson and Buscema, and if you read their work in its own light instead of in light of what preceded it, they did a great job.

Jason, you hit the nail on the head. It's tough to follow a legendary run such as Walt's. But like when they followed Stern and Romita Jr. on Amazing, they were able to do something different and distinct of their own.

I read most of this run over-seas when I was stationed in Korea, IIRC.

Ted,
When were you stationed in Korea? I was there in 91-92 at Osan AB.
