I'm reminded of the leaflet on Famous Jewish Sports Legends from Airplane.

Despite the somewhat condescending tone of this review, the book itself sounds really interesting to me - and I have no connection to Canada at all, other than visiting British Columbia on my honeymoon.

Those WWII Canadian superheroes sound like a lot of fun - Johnny Canuck, Northern Light, Nelvana, Captain Canada. Someone should reprint some of those stories, as I'd love to read them.

Seek out a book called "The Great Canadian Whites" for some reprints, at least partial. But prepare for some fairly sweeping disappointments. It sometimes really does seem that getting superheroes right requires selling your soul to Uncle Sam.

Thanks, JB. I'll look around for that book - although it sounds like these comics perhaps weren't as enjoyable as their names would indicate.

But I've always liked stories set in WWII, either those comics actually produced in the '40s or later books like the Invaders or All-Star Squadron set during that era. Something about seeing a superhero giving Adolph Hitler a sock to the jaw just sounds cool to me.
