inking a comic like this was done before the advent of Pitt pens..I believe the
rapidograph was tool of choice back then.

This was inked mostly with a crowquill pen.

Shoot, I like the lettering. It reminds me of the way lettering used to look, and gives the whole comic a 1950s feel. I've never read this one.
Suddenly I'm stricken, as I can't remember whether MAN OF STEEL had already happened or was about to!

This reminds me of one of the things that I miss about JB's past work: the strict, rectangular panel layout. The Neal Adams slanted panels just rub me the wrong way.
Liked the lettering too. Much better than one would gather from some of JBs comments.

A powerful idea, in my view, that JB inserted here, was that human achievement, unhindered by the church would've progressed much faster!
Victor Stenger wrote in his book God: A Failed Hypothesis that the church stagnated science by 1,500 years, and without that suppression the moon landing could have occurred in 650 AD. Imagine were that would put us now.
I think this was the first issue were it finally clicked for me visual that the Uniform's were black and white.

That lettering makes me think "old, old school" as well.

Yeah, I've wondered about that as well, though it says on the page that all will be revealed in an "upcoming Avengers saga!" This is page 10 of FF 19 side by side with the page from 273 (just for the fun of it).

It refers to a Kang story that occurred in AVENGERS. An awesome Kang story, I might add. AVENGERS 267, 268, 269

Thanks, Brian. In retrospect, I probably should have made that connection (i.e. Kang = Rama-Tut).

Yeah, both the FF and Avengers stories were my introduction to Kang* and Immortus. Still, two of my favorite stories ever.
