Sorry, should have read every post first. I found it via the links above, including the anti-climatic ending: http://www.dograt.com/2007/09/27/in-search-of-steve-ditko-pa rt-7/

I found this Ditko thread still unlocked so instead of starting a new one....

Did you guys know Ditko released two new publications last year and another one already this year?

THE AVENGING MIND (2008)- 32 pages of mostly essays by Ditko with a few pages of art.

DITKO, ETC....(2008)32 page "comic" of mostly single page....uh.....not sure what to call them and a few short stories.

And the brand new .....DITKO CONTINUED (2009) which I haven't read yet but I think is just a continuation of the DITKO, ETC.... comic

Of course these are only available through Robin Snyder.

This concept of "creation" gets really muddy if you parse it too deeply.

If I'm a writer and I tell you (the artist) that the hero's costume is red and
black (blue in print) and covered in webbing, and you bring me back a
drawing, did I create the costume or did you? It never existed in reality
until you drew it, but I had it in my mind before you laid pencil to paper.
+++++++++++++++
this comes up sometimes for established artists who have a team helping
them. The artist comes up with an idea but it's the team that executes it.
Who actually "created it?"

On another note, I'm going to say I have the idea of an underground
railroad that covers the entire earth. Now if it happens, I'm the co-
creator!

Not sure if it was missed it the first time -- but I'll give it another go:

I admire Steve Ditko's commitment to his anonymity. Frankly thou I don't understand the need to be so extreme about it.

Cool article. Reading about Ditko is always intriguing but difficult. I
always wonder how happy someone like him can possibly be. I can't
help but see him as leading a sad, lonely life. Perhaps his work and
adherence to his principles makes him happy, I don't know.

Just my two cents.

I think he is content. It has been so instilled in us that success is measured by fame and fortune. When someone rejects that ideal. The rest of us can't understand why. Perhaps the truth is that Steve Ditko does what he does because of the love of it and to seek that fame and fortune taints the love.
