Rice Crispies in chocolate milk. (1000 times better than Cocoa Crispies in regular milk.)

In Canada, they've recently come out with a Chocolate flavored Special K cereal.  I haven't tried it, but I wonder if the cereal makers forgot why Special K was invented in the first place.  Wasn't it supposed to be a cereal that had less sugar in it???

Just wondering....

My current favorite is probably Raisin Nut Bran.  I tend to like the more flavorful yet not super-sugary stuff, like Frosted mini-Wheats, honey Nut Cheerios, or Blueberry Morning.   there are some I used to love that aren't to be found anymore:  Wheat & Raisin Chex, Strawberry Mini-Wheats (the ones with the strawberry filling, not the strawberry sugar coating).

Nostalgic favorites: Quisp!! Freakies!! and (mainly for the cool toy surprises...) the little known, but fondly remembered Grins, Smiles, Giggles, and Laughs! (Which, based on the shape of the cereal, may have just been Kaboom! remarketed...)

These days, Quisp only appears in some regional markets as Quisp.  Everywhere else, it is marketed as a bagged cereal known as Sweet Crunch with a surfing shark on the bag.

Everyone who remembers the Freakies song, sing it with me now...
"We are the Freakies. We are the Freakies.
And this is the Freakie Tree...
We never miss a meal
Because we love our cer-e-al...
We are the Freakies. We are the Freakies..." (Repeat until Pufnstuf comes back on...)

These days a low sugar diet has me eating marginally healthier fare, like Corn Flakes, Smart Start, Product 19, Kix, and when I want a treat, Peanut Butter Puffins...! (6g of sugar per serving!! Waayyy over my limit...)

Does anyone else remember when Product 19 was fortified with small black particles of iron that you could lift with a magnet...? Was that actually a healthy thing for us to be eating?

as a kid, I ate Frosted Flakes and toast just about 3 times a day.

as a young adult, I moved on to Frosted Mini Wheats.

My mid-life choice is now Banana Nut Crunch.

I recommend Trader Joe's bite size shredded wheat - the original is great, but the new vanilla one is outstanding as well.  Beats Raisin Bran, which I also go for a lot - gotta get that fiber as you become an old goat.
