I read some manga. Case Closed, aka Detective Conan (its title in Japan), is fairly good.

I love Case Closed. It's a consistent check-out for me at the local Noblesville library, which by the way has a tremendous graphic novel section. They have everything domestic and manga - most of the best stuff is constantly on hold, so you have to get on the list.
And for some reason, it's ALL in the teen section, including stuff that's waaaay inappropriate for teens.

Manga is like that jar of testicles in GRINDHOUSE.
Manga is termite damage.
Manga is origami made with tissue paper.
Manga is a dog's tick-infested underbelly.

Manga isn't my thing, but it's just like comic books really. I'd be hard pressed to say all comic books are crap, but I hear a lot of people say that about manga. Chad is, sadly, not the only one to think this way. There's good and bad manga just as there are good and bad American comic books. Manga includes romance stories, cowboy stories, war stories, historical stories, children's stories, superhero stories, Star Trek stories, and tales of fantasy to name but a few. It's not all one kind of story nor is it all told in the same style. You can't lump all manga together and call it bad. You simply can't. Also, like others have said, it fills a void left vacant by the Big Two; all-ages comic books. You don't like it and wish it gone (too bad we're not in an episode of the TWILIGHT ZONE), there's only Marvel and DC to blame.

I don't have to crap on you, Steve. You want to dive under and catch it. The discussion doesn't exclude an opinion on Manga's popularity. Therefore, being a comics reader, I've made my opinion known.

Loved LONE WOLF AND CUB. To be honest, I just dislike Manga. I revile Anime.

Steve's point may be that you could've taken one line and said you disliked it.

Mangas are extremely popular in Italy and the rest of Europe, especially Spain and France.
I'm not a big fan of mangas, I prefer the animated versions. Anyway, I have read DRAGON BALL, CITY HUNTER and HOKUTO NO KEN (aka Fist of the North Star, for you): I really loved them... More than several recent American comics!
