Best Reed Richards issue ever?

It's amazing that no one thought to pit Reed's powers against the tentacles of Doctor Octopus before JB -- reading this story, it seems like a natural!  Great use of the Marvel Universe concept.

Re-reading the issue, I do wonder about the timing of Bruce Banner's appearance, though.  Obviously "A Small Loss" takes place a day or two after the heroes' return from the Secret Wars planet.  But didn't Banner lose control of the Hulk immediately upon his return from Battleworld, requiring Dr. Strange and the Avengers to apprehend him?  When could the in-control Banner have come to the hospital?

One thing that stands out while reading the above pages is how many times Reed says "Doctor Octavious"

The cover of this issue was the first time that it sunk in for me that the new FF costumes were black instead of blue.

I know JB will disagree but "Best Doc Ock issue ever!"

That last page often brings tears to my eyes.

The paper octopus dolls were genius.

One of the best FF issues ever. So many great moments--Reed's breakthrough with Octavius, the octopus paper dolls, the Spider-Man reflection in Octavius' glasses...

The last page/panel still hits me like a punch in the gut. It still resonates after all these years and having re-read it dozens of times.

Greatest Issue Ever.

My #1 comic issue of all time by a wide margin.

I grew up with this one, literally.

Wasn't that the point though?  Reed was trying to reach the noted physicist Dr Octavious NOT rogue criminal Dr Octopus.  Whatever, still a wonderful issue...

Whereas I had seen some Byrne X-Men that some of the older kids in the neighborhood had - this issue - FF 267 - was my first real Byrne comic that I owned.

My introduction to Byrne.

Here I am, years later, still enjoying his work.

I wonder -- in the Age of the Internet, if I did that shot
today, would there be gripes about me being "lazy"
for not filling up the whole page?

I absolutely love this issue. One of the best Dr. Octopus stories ever, and one of the best Mr. Fantastic stories ever. Even the double-meaning of the title is really powerful. And that last page is just stunning.

Brilliant.
