Someone made a comment back there that got me thinking...
I remember reading years ago that Dave Cockrum originally favored Nightcrawler as his favorite character and focused on him during his original run. Wolverine was treated like a background "one-trick pony" type character during X-Men 94-107.
When John Byrne came on board, I remember reading that John preferred the Wolverine character and fleshed him out much more. It was during this period (X-Men 108-143) that Wolverine began gaining fan interest.
My question to Mr. Byrne is... At what time did Chris Claremont start taking interest in Wolverine? Was it during your run together? Or was it after you left and Claremont began to take notice of the fan reaction to the character?
Clearly, by the time of Frank Miller doing the 1982 Wolverine mini-series with Chris, he had to take notice and by the Paul Smith run, Claremont was milking the Wolverine wave up until he left the book some 9 or 10 years later. Just wondering if you had any insight to this change in interest?
Also, in contrast, at what time did you begin to lost interest in Wolverine as a character? He is clearly the newest of the most popular characters in the Marvel universe (those ahead of him being Spider-Man, Captain America (maybe) and now surpassing the Hulk on advertising). Yet Wolverine has changed now since your original run so much as to be a completely different character.
