the camera focus problem could be because of the background being so close to the figure and confusing the auto-focus.

the other picture could be to many things in the shot and the camera picking the wrong object to focus on.

This. . .

. . . and this. . .

. . . were taken under exactly the same circumstances. In fact, I put
Captain Marvel on the couch where I'd placed Guardian fully expecting to
get the same results. But when I set the camera close enough to get the
shot I got of Mac, the picture came out blurred every time.

John, i do not know what settings on the camera you have direct control over but the settings ARE different.  image one is set at ISO 100 and SPOT metering (which usually, but not always, means spot focus point)

image two is set at ISO 400 and PATTERN metering.  This will average out the overall picture and as you have a dark background it will "burn out" the lighter areas.

double, triple and quadruple check your camera settings, if you are having no input and it is set to auto then the camera is "guessing" what image you want and, as in the latter image, guessing incorrectly.

hope that makes sense and helps.

steve

additional info:  your camera has full auto mode and program auto mode; in the latter mode you can change the setting for metering and ISO.

my guess is this is where the problem lies.  image one camera is in PROGRAM AUTO MODE, image two  is in FULL AUTO MODE.

EXPOSURE

The L77 has a full auto mode, program auto, EPS (electronic picture stabilization) mode, and several scene modes.  There are no manual exposure modes.  In auto mode, the only settings that you can change are the timer mode (10 second, 2 second, double shot timer), flash mode (one of two choices), resolution and quality.  If you switch to program auto mode, you get a bit more control.  In addition to the previous settings, you can change the metering mode, drive mode (single, continuous, exposure bracketing, interval), ISO, white balance, and exposure compensation.

How many times do we have to dance this dance, Steve? I am not
changing the settings.
I take a picture. I switch the camera off. A few
days later, I switch it on again to take another picture, and it has changed.
But nowhere is there a readout to say it has changed, or what has changed.

well JB, the exif information is telling me that settings are changing, if it is not you then to coin a Yorkshire phrase, your camera is Donald Ducked :-)

besides, I like dancing,      and trying to help people ;-)

My two cents, try taking your pictures by a bright window or even outside. From what I've read in reviews your camera doesn't do well indoors.

Is it just my eyes or does the picture of gurdian on the couch seem like the flash didn't go off?

I bought Captain Britain today. Pretty cool, but as has been stated here, he is a little on the small side.

Anyone add Ditko lines to Dormammu's face yet?
I know I should cowboy up, and just do it, I think it would look SO much better...

Dwayne, agree to some extent, but the whole beauty of these figures is the way people portray their collection, highlight different paint schemes and generally show-off their re-painting talents.   A figurine forum without images is about as much fun as a snooker match on the radio.

JB has a talent for repainting and we want to see the results - if camera issues are causing him (or any other member for that matter) grief then we want to try and help him (them) get it sorted.

I have some great upcoming figures sat in my display;

WARLOCK
SHOCKER
BISHOP
VALKYRIE
MANDARIN
IMPOSSIBLE MAN
NIGHTHAWK
BLINK

but sorry, can't get images up to show you ;-(

I haven't really but hopefully it helps you get the point of getting the glitch sorted ;-)
