I really like how black that cape and cowl are.  Nice stuff.  :)

Nice use of black here.  It's nice sometimes to see black represented with just black, rather than some other color with black highlights.

JB - You have gone with the "old school" utility belt with little cylinders instead of the pouches that Frank Miller started everyone on.  Is this a visual design preference, or a matter of functionality?

OK -- we really need to force JB and DC to make JB the regular artist on Detective Comics. This is just one of those things that's Meant to Be, and for it to not happen is a sin against nature...

JB, what is your take on the utility belt?  I love the original tube-style that you've done above, but lately it seems every character has a waist belt of pouches and sacks, even the previously alive Captain America.  As useless as the oval?

***

Pretty much. Creeping "realism". Also, once again the shadow of Adam West. For reasons beyond comprehension the makers of the show decided to "literalize" the belt, so that West could actually remove things from it (tho they had no problem with him reaching behind his back to pull out a "bat-shiled" half as big as he was!). Recently -- mostly since DARK KNIGHT and YEAR ONE, artists seem to have become obsessed with the pouched belt. Sometimes I draw it -- but, as with Adam himself, it's hard to pull off without it looking like a paunch.

Nice Batman, JB.  I like the flip of the cape, use of black, and pouchless utility belt.

The Bat-capsules are more aerodynamic.
