Poor Rogue!

Her's must be the most commonly misspelled super-heroine name. My friend Drew once got a copy of a script where the X-Men writer of the moment had spelled her name "Rouge" about half the time.

I see it spelled this way so often on the internet, I sometimes think they should just give her a red costume and be done with it.

I've never heard that before, where is it from, JB?

I made it up. When Marvel threatened legal action
over NEXT MEN, I announced my intent to do
Spy-Doorman and also a book about the
tremendous pressure put upon the medical staff in
hospitals -- DOCTOR STRAINS.

She's tied with Madame Rouge.

(One editor at DC, who had been there a couple of
decades at the time, was actually flat out
flabberghasted when I pointed out to him that the
Doom Patrol villainess was not "Madame Rogue"!)

I play Dungeons and Dragons Online (DDO from here out) and I see Rouge SO often that I am inclined to think Rogue is not the proper spelling, but a mis-spelling of the mis-spelling (One of the character classes in the game is the Rogue, a skilled sneaky trap disabler, so the name comes up in chat a lot, as in "12 rouge LFG" .).

Perhaps the vehemence of the response has
something to do with the way in which the error is
pointed out.

Would a Spy-Doorman book be allowed?
Has Campbell's ever used a Soup-erman?

I don't remember if I spelled Spider-Man with the hyphen all my life, but now I think of it as indicative of the character's nature, as a "spider" and a "man".

Whereas Robotman is not "man" and "robot". That would be a cyborg. He's a "robotman" or "robot man" meaning humanoid robot.

Since Batman doesn't have actual Bat-Powers, he's Batman, symbolic.

What about Nightcrawler? I guess it's a symbolic name as well, since an actual "night crawler" is a large nasty worm. Nightcrawler doesn't just come out at night, but he's ebony, "night-colored". And his motion system involves a lot of squatting and crawling. Still, he's not OF the night.

If Obsidian was called "Night-Man", would he have the hyphen? I say yes, since he has powers that call up this black, night-like terror cloud. It's part of him, but he's also a man.

Isn't QED used in showing proof for mathematical statements?

The Supreme (Image) logo, the first one I believe looks like an early Superman logo and the name is close. I sort of like those "copies", such as Roy The Superboy or whatever.

Btw, every super-hero with a cape is a Superman copy, that's the way I see it, and have,  since I was about five. MoS "changed" this and made Superman dress up as a "copy" of the earlier super-heroes, once being the "copies", which I also like since I like copies.

QED stands for "quid erat demonstratum".  It's Latin for "that which I was trying to prove/demonstrate."

The shortened names have always struck me as something only those with the famiarity of a best friend would ever do. Of the bunch, Spidey is the only character that the shortened name seems appropriate for another to call out due to his own sense of humor, friendly neighborhoodiness. While the Mr. Mytzlplk (spelling in question here) and other silly, impish characters could call out these things, they certainly are few and far between.
