The original cover was done from a sketch that was sent to me. Most likely by Dave Cockrum or Ed Hannigan. That sketch would have gone thru the editorial mill before heading my way.

Update: I was able to communicate with Ed Hannigan through Facebook this morning and he says it wasn't one of his cover sketches so it must've been Cockrum! Sort of a bummer for me as I would've liked to have known that while he was still with us. Thanks again for the info JB.

The greatest cover in the history of comics sold this evening on Comic Connect for $63,000....alas not to me. I was the winning bidder for a while which was fun but it quickly got out of my range. It's new home won't be as good as I could've offered. ;0)

Looking at the original cover all these years later. That Spider-Man figure is SUCH a Dave pose I don’t know how I could ever have thought it was Ed.
