For anyone out there interested, next week (Sept. 23) is supposed to finally be the release date for the BACK ISSUE! magazine (issue 36) with my commission published within its pages. As I mentioned elsewhere on the JBF, I haven't gotten any sort of confirmation that it's actually going to be in there! This was all submitted a full year ago and I haven't heard anything since! Even if my piece doesn't make the pages, I can't recommend BACK ISSUE! enough. Best comics publication out there. The theme for the issue is "Monsters".

Doesn't look like "Muck On!" made the latest Back Issue! after all. Bummer.

Y'know, I was just spending a few minutes poking around the Commissions Gallery, and I feel I must say this is STILL one of my favorites of my own drawings of Spider-Man!

JB,
Within the last year I commissioned an artist for a reimagining of Marvel Team-Up 68 (as I frequently do) and he commented that he was surprised the original version was approved since the hero (Spider-Man) was facing away from the potential customer. He seemed to think this would've likely been considered a no-no at the time (or in general). Do you recall getting any editorial criticism for the decision? It remains not only deeply important to me from a sentimental perspective but objectively one of my all-time favorite comicbook covers.
Thanks.

I'm currently reading ESSENTIAL MAN-THING vol. 2 and got to this issue (MTU 68) reprinted within those pages. Man I love that story! Looked great in black and white and I really think D'Spayre is an interesting villain. I'm surprised so little was ever done with him. Great look to him.

Never mind. Confused it with another story.

How about an answer to your question that's two years in the making, Joe?The original cover was done from a sketch that was sent to me. Most likely by Dave Cockrum or Ed Hannigan. That sketch would have gone thru the editorial mill before heading my way.

Since I'm still relatively new here (not even a year old), I haven't seen this one yet. A great contrast with Spider-Man and everything else. Love all of the ink used.
