I love that issue especially for the treatment of what it would really mean to be the clone of someone. To this day what JB managed to demonstrate so clearly and in such an emotionally realistic way in this issue still sets my mind on how I envision cloning.

A powerful issue that redefined Namorita and made her more interesting... *** The problem, alas, was that Nita was also appearing in another title, which happened to be selling better than NAMOR, and thus giving the writer of that title the idea that it was he, not me, who should be dictating her story.* He hated the clone story and actually campaigned to stop me doing it. And, of course, twisted it as soon as I left NAMOR.
* When Namorita turned up in the second issue of NAMOR there were complaints from "down the hall". "She belongs to our book!!" All in all, it was like the writer of TEEN TITANS trying to tell the Batman office how to handle Robin -- only in this case, TITANS "won", and the character lost.

Good thing they killed her and cleaned up that mess!

After reading Namor #18 thread I picked up Namor 9-20. Now I am going to pick this issue as well as the rest of JB's Namor up.

Great origin for Namorita. I was getting excited about seeing Namor go against the Plant Man.

Would anyone be up for a 'GENERATIONS' Reading Club after Namor ends?

JB, I loved your run on Namor, simply because it was a return of Iron Fist as only you know how to render.
But one question: Namor was also the first I saw your use of the 'zip-a-tone' shading effect. Was this just a simple experiment on your part, or really a means to bring your art to a different level?

Page 19 reminded me of Walt Simonson's pages (well....just the "Dialog Baloons").

If you want to take over the Thursday spot after Namor ends feel free. Otherwise I'll go with the West Coast Avengers.

WCA is great stuff too! I was thinking GENERATIONS because it would be interesting to hear the forum's views/theories on the potential stories that could have come out of the imaginary universe.

I really need to find some of the WCA run. I remember when it came out that I thought it was some of the best JB art I had yet seen. It's all foggy now after so many years, but I distinctly recall thinking that the figures seemed especially powerful and fleshed out.

I actually disagree with JB here. I did not like the clone angle at all. However, I liked JB's depiction of Namorita more than her portrayal in the New Warriors. There was such a big dichotomy in persona that the only way to reconcile it was that Nita showed her "true" personality in Namor and simply acted like a bitch in New Warriors for her own reasons. It was the first time I, as a reader, had to deal with what was obviously an editorial error somewhere.
However, I loved the upcoming Plantman story. Probably my vote for lamest villain ever before this arc. I was very happy that JB made him dangerous! And I went ga ga when Tyrone King appeared. I really didn't know anything about the character or his ties to Iron Fist, but it just looked like bad mojo.
Good issue.
