Greg, you have totally nailed the problem with so many of Cannonball's
costumes: one major part of his power ius to fly really really fast, yet few of
his outfits have ever been sleek to facilitate that. Always pouches, oversized
gloves and boots, jackets to slow him down or create drag. Based on what
you presented here, the top costume featuring the younger kid from
"Malcolm in the Middle" is definitely best.

Sadly, it shows that many of the artiists just don't think through the
costumes they create logically.

Hmm, Cannonball is channelling Adam Ant in that Liefeld one.

Cannonball's costumes might be the least of his problems.  Didn't he actually change heights at one point?

As for the pouches, maybe they keep chewing gum and stuff in there...

I thought the Deodato Scarlet Witch costume was one of her best ones, personally.

" I though it looked rushed and sketchy, particularly after the clean, graceful lines of Paul Smith."

Bear in mind that the inkers changed from Bob Wiacek to Dan Green right around the same time, so the scratchiness you saw probably came from Green.

This one doesn't really count as it's from a dream sequence in Whedon and Cassaday's Astonishing X-Men, but it sure is an honorable mention.

I can't stop looking at Cannonball in the baggy Cyclops outfit.  I can't believe the "banana sling" part appeared in a Marvel Comic!

As a gay man, I kinda like it though.

Yeah, I thought Silvestri/Green was rather too sketchy for my liking, as well.  Silvestri seems pretty sketchy to begin with.

Ugh Strong guy always seemed to me a character made up so that he could be drawn completely out of proportion so that other characters looked better by comparison.
