I'm kind of fond of the 1st Dazzler uniform too (Without the
Skates, though!). It kind of looks like what some girls are
wearing at night clubs these days (She may be comming back
into style?)!
I might be a bit nostalgic and that may cloud my judgement! I
recall my older sis wearing that type of thing back in '75 (why
my mom let her out in that type of outfit baffles me!).
What about the Jim Lee or Grant Morrison era outfits? I felt bad
for Cyclops! He went from the Kirby coolness of his 1st uniform
to the modern/sleek look of his post- graduation uniform (that
Cockrum and JB touched up a bit) to the horror of Jim Lee's
poutches/buckles/uni-bra/ hair-flowing monstrosity of the '90's
to Quietly's unhip leather pants (Ugh!), puffy hip-hop jacket and
sunglasses of the '00's.
Where's his visor? Not only that, but he
looks like some slob who's been on a bender!
This outfit makes HIS head hurt too! Maybe it's the pain brought
on by the stupid jock-strap!
The Best! THIS is what I picture when I think about Cyclops!
Off topic! Speaking of mid-'70's fashion: Does anyone else
have a fondness for the retro 1930's by way of the 1970's look
that was in style for women back then? Like Sylvia Kristel in
Emmanuele, or Jerri Hall during her association with Roxy
Music? Most women's outfits are awful these days (they look
like they fell out of a Goodwill bag)! The clothes from that era
look sexy/mature/ fem!

Yeah Art's New Mutants ones were really bad with the color choices. Jim Lee was a buckles and belts maniac. Rob Liefeld worked with shoulder pads and glowing eyes.

I liked the Kia Asamya ones. Except for Angel's cloth. He had a fabulous run of 4 whole issues on the title, that's right.

I really disliked the Asamya stuff...not that a lot of the stuff before it or since has been much to write home about. The manga influence didn't work for this book and Austen's scripts were dreadful.

Uhh...Herrr...Ahhh... Dunno how to say this, but, ummm...
I actually kinda like the Jim Lee Cyclops with hair showing and the pouches o' plenty. I was reading those books when I was 10-12 and they make me feel like a kid again, who can enjoy such things without fear of them being illogical or excessively impractical.

I really really really do not appreciate JRjr's work on X-Men. I realize I'm in the minority here. I liked it on Iron Man with Bob Layton and the first couple issues of Dazzler were astounding.
But on X-Men, I felt like he felt like he had "made it" and was now just mailing it in. Gone was all his detail. Gone was much ingenuity. Present were goudy and rediculous custumes (what's with Mutton chops the gay disco raider above Shaw?)(what's with the chains and how they lie unnaturally from Magneto?) (what's with the hair that I could draw better?) Yeesh.
I know JRjr has his fans here, but what is it you see in his work? Is it the spacing? Is it the layouts? It can't be the use of line or detail... Just wondering...

My only problem with JrJr on X-Men was that I felt he just wasn't "cast" right for the role. I was happy when he left and Silvestri took over.
Now, his work on Daredevil and the Punisher was perfect.
