What's the problem with people echoing the same or similar response? You get a feeling of how individual people feel rather than one person supposedly speaking for all.

Nothing wrong with it per say, it just rubs me a bit when it is almost word for word. Is it an open discussion if individuals aren't actually reading what came before?

Sure it is, but I echo people's sentiments all the time. Doesn't mean I haven't read the thread. Often it just means I want to toss my support behind a notion someone has already expressed. No problem with that.
