thought that Moore was a sick man, then I just realized that some
writers and artist are so flawed they can't believe there can be good
in others, not even in fictional characters, and need to show that to a
lot of flawed fans that can find a excuse to their own lives.
Not sure what book you read, but in the WATCHMEN I read, I saw a lot of humanity in every character. Sure, the good guys had their faults, but the bad guys had their virtues. Which is pretty much the case in the real world. In the final moments of that street corner, you see a lot of noble behavior on display and the news vender attempting to shield the boy from the blast always brings a tear to the eye.
Perhaps it doesn't adhere to the simplistic notions usually found in super-hero fiction, but it wasn't an exercise in nihilism by any stretch of the imagination. These people had their own moral codes and they did their best to live by them. That they (like everyone) were imperfect is part of the tragedy. The bad guys are still bad guys, but they're not cardboard cut-outs.

I didn't actually take offence John, although if I had, it would
probably have been because you've made it quite clear that you don't like
the use of 'LOL' or emoticons, which would make anyone frequenting this
forum think that you were being sarcastic at best.
Given that I don't LOL or wink at people very often (if ever and certainly
not yourself, that I can recall) whatever point you were trying to make is
lost on me, I'm afraid. Whatever your reasoning, being called a 'fucking
moron' just seemed a bit unnecessary, and still does.

I recall reading an interview with Moore stating he named him Ozymandias
so he could have that seen at the end linking to the "look upon my works"
line. Perhaps he should have considered the fuller context.

I disagree. Even if we limit the consideration to the present of the story, Nite Owl II is a superhero, as is Silk Spectre II. If you consider the entire story of WATCHMEN, Nite Owl I, Hooded Justice, Mothman, Silhoutte, and Captain Metropolis are all superheroes, with Ozymandias, Rorschach, and Dr. Manhattan all behaving in the role of superhero before the passage of the Keene Act.
In any event, the post to which I replied indicated that WATCHMEN was a bad superhero story because the bad guy won, not because there was a lack of superheroes.

Watchmen was the superhero genre through the lens of the Underground Comix. There's nothing super or heroic in the Watchmen. 'Nuff said.

The english pronunciation (as in Shelley's poem) is Ozy-MAN-Dias, I don't know how its pronounced in the States. Is there a Constant(ine) / Constant(een) issue?
If so it would be interesting if Moore had indicated whether Veidt pronounces it with an English accent implying he's read the poem, or not, suggesting he might have first encountered the name in respect of a historical footnote about Rames II. Not even the fastest reader can have read everything, life's too short.
I don't suppose he corrects the journalist's pronunciation or anything?
