It seems to me, all the sturm und drang springs largely from your failure to really give much of an answer.*** If I was in a court of law, my initial answer would have been "Asked and answered." If I have not, in the span of all my twenty seven thousand posts made it abundantly clear what I like and don't like, I cannot imagine how making the same points over and over and over again could possibly serve much purpose. I am weary beyond measure of the "innocent" and "sincere" questions that have already been answered a hundred times.

This evokes shades of 'comics being passed under bathroom stalls' to me.
I've been lurking here for, literally, years. When I was a kid, I coveted 'The Art of John Byrne' . I read and reread his comics religiously. I tried to draw his stuff on my school books.
I've seen all the weirdness come and go on this board. And threads like this make me nervous. Here's a board here where you can view commissions, browse a huge backlog of art and even ask questions. And John Byrne doesn't have to be here or do any of this. I don't know how he puts up with it as it is. Most internet boards I've seen, started by individuals, wouldn't be nearly as tolerant of the B.S. I see around here.
Some of you think a person needs to "act" a certain way or answer questions in a way that you perceive as "correct". In my life, I'm in a professional field and I interact with fellow professionals every day. I trained and went to school for over 10 years to do what I do and I've never seen such a unique (in a bad way) situation where people give their constant criticism of what is said and done. Damn, if people second guessed everything some of you said in everyday life, you'd go insane.
The thread was loaded to begin with. End of story. If some of you can't see that and want to play the 'well, just answer the question' line, you're imperceptive and blind.

I mainly recall the negative comments about modern comics you've made. So, you have made it abundantly clear what you don't like in that area, and yeah, what you do like about comics of the past. This was asking if there's anything recent that you like. I don't remember seeing anything like hundreds of positive comments about recent stuff, though like I said I have seen you compliment Alan Davis, the Dodsons, Adam Hughes, etc. etc. Is there anything else that you can point to? Anything that we haven't heard? That's all.

Sure, there are lots of them. Besides those you mention, and your own (who I have missed from the pages of one of my favorite comics ever, JSA, though I have to admit Dale Eaglesham eased that a bit) there are Ed McGuinness, Olivier Copiel, Adam Hughes, Terry Dodson, Mike Deodato, Michael Lark, Alex Maleev, Cameron Stewart, Simone Bianchi, Douh Mahnke, Ed Benes, Ryan Sook, Ethan Van Sciver. Then there are guys like Frank Quitely, J.H. Williams III and Darwyn Cooke whom I believe are destined to be talked about in the same breath as the great masters like Kirby or Kubert.
I don't know if right now there are greater artists than ever before. I do believe that there are more great writers right now than ever.

If you've been lurking for years, you should have certainly picked up on that. Add: ask questions a certain way, as well. I'm rather curious to know why people seem to think this was a loaded question. Simply because it's actually not a question that has been answered over and over?

Do you honestly expect your fans to read all twenty-seven thousand posts in order to interact with you? Do you really think that someone who has an interest in you and your work should know everything there is to know before they come up with the nerve to ask you a question?
Maybe if all twenty-seven thousand posts were included in the FAQ, you wouldn't run into this problem.

With so many new great masters, we'll all be out of breath !

JB certainly didn't mean that, Don.

Dave Pruitt: If you can't see that question was loaded, with the typed emphasis on certain words, the followup commentary, the chances to ease up as the thread went on, the 'I have nothing to apologize for' attitude, etc., you're never going to get it.
The approach I take in business, is simple, and it works for me. I do things a certain way. You may not like it, you may not agree with it, and that's all fine. But, this is the way I do it. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. But you won't come in my place of business and complain about how I do things or insist I be another way. Won't happen.
Again, for people with any sense at all, the original question was rigged and aggressive. When I first saw it, I thought for sure it would be deleted. It amazed me when JB answered it in the first place. But the questioner kept picking and picking. Wake up.

Joe, don't worry, it's been established elsewhere that Don is a dick.

Joe, then what is meant by " I have not, in the span of all my twenty seven thousand posts made it abundantly clear what I like and don't like, I cannot imagine how making the same points over and over and over again could possibly serve much purpose. ", Joe? If one can not ask questions because several others asked the exact same question even one thousand times out of twenty-seven thousand, what should one do istead? I am open to alternatives. I understand that JB puts himself out here, and that is a treat. I understand that people do ask the exact same things over and over again. Its the nature of the beast when you allow new people to interact with you regularly. So how would you suggest dealing with new people and ensuring they don't ask the same questions repeatedly that others have asked?
