"JB, for the love of God...next time you read a good comic or devour a
good novel, see a good movie, laugh at a sitcom, dance to a song on the
radio or find a good restaurant, could you please share it with the
forum????!!!???"
But he does all that ! Except the comics part.

Please point me in the direction of some new good stuff! I'd love to read it. There's FANTASTIC FOUR: THE END, INVINCIBLE, SPIDER-GIRL, THE SPIRIT, and... |

Besides the ones you listed, some superhero books I'm enjoying these days are GODLAND, SHE-HULK, ANT-MAN, ATOM, ROCKETO, LEGION OF SUPERHEROES, JUSTICE, AQUAMAN, AGENTS OF ATLAS, JONAH HEX, DETECTIVE COMICS, JACK KIRBY'S GALACTIC BOUNTY HUNTERS (granted, I'm stretching a bit by including ROCKETO and JONAH HEX, but both books are good enough to stretch for).
Edited because on re-reading, I thought my post came across as a little argumentative, and I didn't want anyone to think I was being argumentative. Also, I forgot GALACTIC BOUNTY HUNTERS, and that's too fun of a book to leave off this list!

John Bodin- Don't apologize for me. I wasn't thinking about any other poster or "professional".

John, What a nice post, thanks!
Its ok, I dont think that most people around here know "who I am" anyway..so..its all good..I dont think most of these guys need ( or want) anyone apologizing for them. Everyone has their own way of responding to things..my feelings are not hurt or anything...I think the 'harsher' folks posts speak more about them than anything I could add. As Ive said a while back I know the internet message boards 'place'. It was intended as a fun question ( but serious) , and taken WAY off track.
Although I dont follow his Art so much nowadays as I used to, it continues to be an inspiration...I did a Brotherhood of Evil drawing for Wizard a while back and for reference was leafing through his X-Men like I was 10 again..
I did want to know what ART/MUSIC/MOVIES inspire JB...nothing more to it than that! Steve ...and as forthe Art, John..thanks, I will try..:)

Roger (or anyone else who may know), did the senior Romita provide artwork for the ESSENTIAL MS. MARVEL volume? |

He did the cover for MS. MARVEL #1, but I think (not 100% certain) that's all he did for this book. But there will be some art by guys like John Buscema, Sal Buscema, Jim Mooney, Joe Sinnott, Dave Cockrum, and Carmine Infantino -- so that will take the sting out of the relative lack of Jazzy John!

SS, it doesn't matter if it's your forum, or mine or the Pope's, it's weak for anyone to come in, pick at the host, then pretend their question is all innocence.

Stephen, I recommend you check out JB's pencil galleries to see his more recent work. I think you'll enjoy his Blood of the Demon stuff, maybe it will give you a sense of what your looking for in the inspiration department. If not they are some pretty pictures you can look at.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've either flipped through or read at least one issue of every superhero title you mention (except for AGENTS OF ATLAS and JUSTICE), but none of them worked for me. I had high hopes for ANT-Man because of Kirkman's work on INVINCIBLE, but was extremely disappointed with the first issue. I stuck with GALACTIC BOUNTY HUNTERS for three issues before calling it quits. GODLAND looked like someone unsuccessfully trying to do Kirby. (That may be unfair of me, but the style of the art is such that I can't help but compare it to the King's.) I can't remember the artist on the issues of DETECTIVE COMICS I flipped through at my LCS, but the art was the problem there. The same is true of the art on THE ALL-NEW ATOM after that Byrne guy left, and since I'm an all or nothing comics reader...
I'm perfectly willing to admit that it may just be me; I am pretty selective. I think I've been spoiled by all of the really good stuff I used to read. I am looking forward to Davis on CLANDESTINE, Perez on BRAVE AND THE BOLD, Smith on SHAZAM!, and (maybe) McDuffie on FANTASTIC FOUR though, so we'll see...
Oh, and I'll give AGENTS OF ATLAS and JUSTICE a look, too.

Wallace, if I might add my two cents in. I find Godland very quirky and fun. The artist, while still heavy Kirby-ish, is growing into his own style with each new issue. It's a big difference from the first issue. They are doing a 60 cent issue soon, try and see if you change your mind.
I agree that the art on Detective is the biggest drawback to the well written series. I could have sworn J.H. Williams was supposed to have been the regular artist. I gave up on Justice, too bleak, but liked Agents of Atlas. I also suggest Spider-Man Loves Mary Jane.

Thanks, Paul. I may give the upcoming issue of GODLAND you mention a try.

Paul,
Agents of Atlas is good? Good to hear! I think I'll pick up the trade when it
comes out (after the upcoming hardcover).
