open aired flight at high speeds and altitudes...mmmm...???? 

Bugs in the teeth and the eyes would be both painful and disgusting ! 

But as Neil wrote and Geddy sings in Mystic Rhythms:

Flying bathtub.  Maybe it's clunky and impractical(an opinion I don't share) but it's gotta be the neatest looking vehicle in comics.  I love the tub!
