I prefer "In blackest night..." - all things being equal: they both convey the same feeling, they both scan well, I don't see the point in changing it from the original. It's not like having a sports team named the [insert offensive sports team name here]. It's just a night-and-day encompassing phrase. Sorta the cosmic version of the postman's creed.
Sunday 11/23 toss-up: "Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man" or "The ever-lovin' blue-eyed Thing"?
