JB's Thing because of the greatness of his FF run. However, if JB were to do a solo series featuring one or the other now, I would have to choose the Hulk (and hope it lasted longer than last time)

The Thing, all the way.
Aaron's logic regarding a solo series, though, is impeccable.

The Thing -- He was exceptionally well handled by JB.
I loved what JB started with the Hulk but even if it had lasted 100 issues I
doubt that the Hulk would seem as cool to me as Aunt Petunia's favourite
nephew...

Loooooove J. Byrne's stylings of the thing! Even when Grimm's distintct brow disappeared and Byrne drew him more with a 'cap' on his head.

I was so let Down when J. Byrne left the Hulk. I've never been a Hulk fan. When Byrne got on board, I was ecstatic to try his version of the green goliath. The excitement was quickly extinguished when John left too soon.
I chose Thing

The question is a bit unfair, since:
1. JB has drawn the Thing far more often than the Hulk.
2. The Hulk that JB depicted in his all-too-brief run was the based on the Sal Buscema version in vogue during that era. Had JB stayed on, we would have seen his "true"/preferred Hulk (a retro-Kirby/Ayers version).

I've mentioned this before, but I read an issue of "Amazing heroes" or somesuch mag at the time JB jumped from Alpha Flight to Hulk. Cryptic comments about an armored villain known as the General, an appearance by Metal Master and other comments make me too wish he'd stayed on much longer on the Hulk.

Will pick the Thing. Love how JB showed his human side. I think many writers assume that Ben Grimm is nothing more than the muscle for the F.F. I think JB explored other aspects that made him seem more human than the rest of the fantastic foursome.

++++++++++++
Yeah, great interview in that mag.
The Metal Master battling the Hulk with the Adamantium Hulk statue from Mantlo's run, a "very, very important death" (which I have a theory about), Banner in control of the Hulk (well, somewhat), a retro Kirby-Ayers look, and all sorts of other great stuff that never came to pass.
Sigh.
