For the enjoyment of the reader: Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

For the morale of the reader: Captain America.

For the concern of the human race and the superhero community in the MU: Namor, the Sub-Mariner.

For galvanizing the Avengers during their ambivalent formative years in the MU: Captain America.

Etc.

I suppose it depends upon how one looks at it.

I give the smallest of edges to Namor because he returned first.  Both stories are among my favorites.  Stan handled the pathos of both very well.  Of course, the good Doctor Von Doom stole the show from Namor soon after.

Monday 10/27 toss-up - women: a mistake?  Or did He do it to us on purpose?
