05/08: Captain America. I could care less about the current Iron Man.

05/09: Byrne's Hercules. Layton's art always seemed stiff to me, while JB's is very organic. Ditko-esque.

I'm going with Layton's Hercules because I have fond memories of it from my youth.  I don't know if it holds up now though.  I haven't read it in over 25 years and I found that his Iron Man that I enjoyed didn't work as well for me recently upon re-reading.  JB hasn't done enough with the character for me to pick him in this one.

John Byrne's by a small margin,  His writing was better on the book, but it was also a different time.

In terms of art, Fantastic Four by John Byrne.  For concepts, Jack Kirby.

  • I know JB will disagree, but I prefer his FF over Kirby's.
