Stern's work with Namor (perhaps building on JB's take?) was so good it gives John Buscema the edge.  That was my favorite period in the Avengers history, followed by JB's, then Perez'.

really really hard to call, in many ways JB's runs made me an Avenger's fan, and yet in just as many ways, John Buscema IS the Avengers artists, so I'll give him the specialists edge here.

Just a couple more days of these "Dear John" quetsions.

TODAY'S TOSS-UP (5/2):

John Romita or John Romita Jr.?

Lots of room for discussion here, especially when it comes to Daredevil and Spider-Man.

Junior. Senior is amazing, but JRjr just takes his craft to a whole new level.
Again, no contest.

Wow; that's a really tough question. I go back and forth on this one quite a bit.

John Romita Jr. has worked on a broader range of characters. And you would be hard-pressed to find a more respected artist among his peers in the industry. JR Jr. has the reputation of being something of a miracle worker:  "Give him a mediocre script and he can spin it into gold."

But JR Sr. created the definitive Spider-Man and is almost synonymous with Marvel's flagship character. Romita introduced the soap opera elements that made Spider-Man of the 1970s such an irresistible read.

You asked this question a few months back and, at that time, I chose John Romita Sr. So this time around, I'll take JR Jr. Really, it's a coin flip between these two genuine legends of the comics industry.

JR Jr., though the one area where I feel Sr. is superior is faces.
