I'd say Hercules has been handled better, but that's the commercial answer. Personal favorite is the Big Red Cheese.

Captain Marvel -- I've liked a lot of Hercules, but then found other uses of him painful, particularly when they cast him as a buffoon. (then again, there are times where they write Marvel like he's a simpleton, but that's generally amist a whole book of bad-writing and not just his characterization)
