Invisible Woman.

I never thought Sue Storm was an interesting character before JB started writing her. But by the end of his tenure, I found her the most interesting, sympathetic character on the team.

Phoenix seemed like a short-term character from the start. She was so powerful that the rest of the X-Men  became second bananas. It was pretty much inevitable that she had to be written out of the book in some way.

But as much as it's been copied in the last 30 years, the Dark Phoenix Saga still holds up as one of the best comic book stories I've ever read.
