To answer both today's and yesterday's question, for overall body of work, I have to go with Kirby over Ditko. Heck, I have to go with Kirby over any other comic book artist, past or present. I think you can make a pretty darned strong case that Jack Kirby is the greatest comic book artist ever.

However, when comparing Kirby's FF to Ditko's Spider-Man, I'll pick Sturdy Steve's work on the Wall-Crawler. What can I say? I'm a Spider-Man fan. I actually was just re-reading a few of those early tales just last night (ASM #3-8, to be exact) and they are just as magical today as they were the first time I read them as a kid.

I will say that Marvel got it absolutely right with those two. I can't see Ditko's style working on FF nearly as well as Kirby's and, likewise, I don't think Kirby's classic, heroic style fit Spider-Man as well as Ditko's quirkiness.

Oh, and Michael is 100% right - Ditko's Dr. Strange absolutely rocked.

"Wrong! Gerry tell him who's the man doing Dr Strange?!"

****

I'm aware of Ditko's Dr. Strange.  I was not "wrong".  I was just saying that I enjoy Ditko's Spider-Man so much that it stands alone on par with any run by any other creator and even ONLY considering that run I hold Ditko close to Kirby's entire body of work.

while acknowledging these are The two quintessential Marvel Age runs, I have to give the nod to the Lee/Kirby FF run --

Spider-Man.  No matter what, he's almost always good for a laugh.

The Fantastic Four, in the 70/80's I would have said Spider-Man.
