I hate to waffle, but it totally depends on the writer. In the wrong hands, Superman is the most tedious character in comic-dom. Done right (as by JB and a few others) he can be incredibly interesting because, by the nature of his powers, all his challenges have to be intellectual, emotional or moral.

On the other hand, Walt Simonson's Thor may be one of the two or three best runs of any book, ever.

I'm a big Marvel and Avengers fan, but I have to go with Superman.  If he'd been up against Cap, that'd be a different story.
