He is what every person should aspire to be.

He inspires you to do your best, not just for yourself but for everyone. He makes you want to do the right thing without any reward or personal glory as the outcome of your actions.

Paul & Jimmie, Superman, for reasons like these, is the model for my professional self.  I try to teach, educate, and lead like I were him.

Ted, I thought you modeled yourself after Dean Wormer from Animal House. Honestly, how many of your students are on double secret probation?

It might sound corny, but reading superhero stories as a child did impact the way I treat others. I not only wanted the superpowers, I wanted to be as good as the heroes I read about.

Doesn't sound corny at all to me, Paul.

Me neither, I am sure Captain America and G. I. Joe had much to do with me joining the army.

Shame I had to act like Green Arrow in college ;-)

You're not alone Ted.  Captain America was one of my inspirations for joining the Marine Corps.

Playing catch up again:

The Eternals

Haven't seen the new animated Superman movie, so I abstain.

Superman.  He has powers.

I look at it like this: The Batman is inspired directly by The Shadow. The Shadow is my favorite character of all time probably.

Superman is inspired by Doc Savage.

Now, I can only choose by saying, "Which would I rather write?"

Well, I think writing the Batman like The Shadow isn't precisely the way to go. Frank Miller is doing it in ALL STAR BATMAN and I love it, but nobody else does. "Eat glass, lawman!" is something a modernized Shadow might utter.

No, I think Superman. Only I'd have to deemphasize super speed and heat vision and all that. Heat vision as a weapon should be like Gamera and his fire breath. It's a last resort, maybe a coup de grace. No more devil eyes.

Superman could fit into any adventure tale you can come up with, created to scale. You could have jungle adventure Superman in a jungle on another world where the creatures CAN hurt him. You can have him doing an Indiana Jones in deep space, trying to reclaim some universe threatening artifact. You can do anything with Superman, so he's more fun to work on, just to see how crazy a situation I could conjure for him, paint into a corner and do more than have Superman punch his way out...though that's going to happen too. A lot.

Superman...

Batman...he's always been more enjoyable for me because it's a more believable character.
