But sometimes, you, as an employee, might not agree with a management decision. All you can do is perform your job to the best of your abilities. That's what JR Jr. does year in and year out.

I seriously doubt JRJr is an employee under any definition of the word. I assume he's under contract, but that doesn't mean he can't be more picky. And if you're right, I feel bad for the guy.

Unfortunately, in ranking these four, I have to do this:

1: Byrne/Perez

2: JRJr/Davis

They're are two VERY close tiers, but as individual artists on their "level", I can't choose between them. Well, maybe between Romita and Davis, but definitely not between JB and Gorgeous George.

And now with added info (a la Paul)...

  1. John Byrne handled everything on JBNM except the coloring.  Wow.
  2. Alan Davis has created some of the most amazing comic art I have ever seen.  He's also an underrated writer.
  3. George Perez's Avengers and Teen Titans work is incredible.
  4. John Romita Jr. is a talented artist.

I'd just make one small change, largely because I'm such a Spider-Man fan and Romita's version is the classic, definitive one.

1. Jack Kirby

2. Steve Ditko

3. John Romita

4. John Buscema

I think Kirby has to be ranked #1 on any list of comic book artists. In my mind, he contributed more to comics and produced more great work than anyone else.
