Superman, easily. The stakes for Marvel with the X-Men were very low -- what did they have to lose if it didn't work? Superman was Superman.

Peter gets the Troy Nunis* award for the day.

*Highly prestigious award; I haven't earned one myself, and I make up the toss-ups.  Troy's consistently an awesome tosser.  "snicker*

Yes Superman was the financially larger property by "leaps and bounds", eminently more risk involved. The X-men were a reprint magazine at the time, or had they stopped altogether?

Cheryl Ladd was the most beautiful woman alive in the 70's.

Ryan, I would disagree with thee.

Jaclyn Smith!!!

Superman wins.  While the character is so iconic as to be "safe", it was still a big risk to mess with success, even with the potential for greater success.  X-Men wasn't much of a risk at all.

Tuesday, 6/8 toss-up: which of these is the better logo (pictured below eventually) - Avengers or X-Men?
