Storm - while Invisible Girl has made great strides for herself, she's been behind the trend for female characters in general, while Storm has been ahead of it (until she got married off to Black Panther against her character, but that's a recent development).

Most of the groundwork was laid down with The Invisible Girl.  I just realized The Wasp might have been better competition.

Sunday, 1/24 toss-up: better cartoon-to-comics character - Firestar (Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends) or Harley Quinn (Batman: The Animated Series)?
