Something Wicked This Way Comes is far scarier to me.  maybe it's because I was a Catholic, but The Exorcist just did nothing.  Even the title isn't scary - it's named after the guy who's gonna come fix everything, after all.  But carny folk have always struck me somewhere between unsavory and malicious.  And Jonathan Pryce, oh my god.  The words from his mouth were much more chilling than green vomit.

Karloff. 

There's probably no more iconic design in Hollywood history than Karloff's Frankenstein.  Plus he gets major points for being the voice of the Grinch!!!
