I'm going with the "Phoenix/Suneater" angle. In the crossover scheme of things, Galactus eating Krypton is a possibility, and a good one at that. Galactus is still Galactus, just with another notch on his belt. But Phoenix is totally unrelated to Suneaters. Its a complete departure from what we already know.

I'm not saying that Galactus/Krypton is not a retcon. I'm just going with scale over definition.
