Tough question.
I'm gonna say Mac beats Reed into space.
Humans as a race have short memories when it comes to personal danger and tragedy. But we remember accomplishments forever. I can easily see people remembering the first man in space over survival.

Galactus in Smallville. Of course, Galactus ends up standing around for a while, scratching his head, looking for SOME structure large enough on which to construct his planet converter device.....

Galactus in Smallville. Mac was a scientist, but didn't want to be a superhero. I don't think his character would have had the impact that a Mr. Fantastic did if he crashed with new powers.
Edit to change Reed to Mac, which is what I intended

Dagnabit Ryan, this was supposed to turn into an Alpha Flight vs. Galactus war between you and William!

I'd love to see Canada's finest beat the FF to the moon. On board would be Mac, Heather, Michael Twoyoungmen, Walter Langkowski, and a certain vertically challenged pre-adamantium mutant we all know and love. And the shielding would NOT be effective, once again. Thursday 8/27 toss-up: more educational - classic Metamorpho stories or classic Metal Men stories?
