I chose these two for my topic because I always kinda dug those "What if..." stories that got to the essence of a character by showing where he DIDN'T fit. Here we have Batman, perhaps the ultimate street level character, given incredible power, but it would make things a little TOO easy, while simultaneously adding a level of responsibility that would interfere with what Batman's true calling is.
And Troy is exactly right on Captain America (if it is possible to have a correct opinion, we see it here). For starters, CA is ten times the leader Reed Richards is, at minimum. Reed's more of a "keep this guy busy; I got an idea" leader, while CA thinks tactically and gives direction. And Reed's the father figure of an unconventional family. CA could never be more than the wacky neighbor - and that's a Spider-Man role, as others have pointed out. For some reason you can leave Spider-Man's mask on and put a five on his chest and it JUST works. Sometimes he doesn't even seem masked to me! But there's nowhere to put a five on CA that doesn't look like sacrilege, and him being masked would stick out like a sore thumb.
So my answer is CA joins the FF and leaves for The Avengers soon after.
Saturday 6/27 toss-up: which part of Days of Future Passed was better - the "future" battle versus the Sentinels or the "present" one against the Brotherhood?
