I really enjoyed The New Mutants. They came along when I had some $$ (and before comics prices ballooned) I and was able to follow multiple titles faithfully. I enjoyed looking at the clear parallels to the X-Men:
- Cannonball - Like Cyclops, unable to control his powers well, and a gentle soul like Colossus..
- Sunspot - Colossus' power, Nightcrawler's charm with the ladies, Wolverine's attitude
- Psyche - Basically Thunderbird
- Wolfsbane - Wolverine with Nightcrawler's feeling of outcast
- Karma - Leadership like Cyclops, and a fate like Thunderbird's
- Magik - Teleporter like Nightcrawler, dark secrets like Wolverine, magic-oriented like Storm, even armor like Colossus! Ugh.
- Magma - Powers linked to emotional state, like Storm
- Warlock - Like Wolverine, pursued. Also something of a wild card.
There were unfortunate excesses, of course. Psyche being a Valkyrie I could live with, but Illyana was like a road company Shadowcat - whatever you needed, she could do. It was a bit much, which is why my choice for the bonus is Siennkiewicz. He was the shot-in-the-arm the team needed to become awesome.
Anyway.
Thursday 6/25 toss-up: who rules the seas - Aquaman or The Sub-Mariner?
