a Not-so-great idea from the start, that still COULD have been okay, but really was handled as badly as it possibly could have been.

Bad idea from the start.  I thought the reveal was going to be that Maddy Pryor actually didn't look AT ALL like Jean Grey.  It was all Mastermind.  Unfortunately, no.
