Both guys were exactly where they needed to be. Kirby's grand, cosmic style was a perfect fit for the Fantastic Four, but wouldn't have worked on Amazing Spider-Man the way that Ditko's quirky, street-level style did.

If I had to pick, I'll go with Ditko on the FF. But this is something they got right the first time around.
