Catching up....

Neal Adam's Batman or Jim Aparo's Batman - While Aparo did far more work on the Caped Crusader, Adams remains my personal favorite. His early '70s work with Denny O'Neil redefined the character and remains my all-time favorite Batman run. Aparo's stuff is consistently good, but he doesn't have the "wow" factor that Adams' work does.

Batman: Year One or Dark Knight Returns - Both were great, but Dark Knight takes it by an easy margin in my book. Few works in comics history were as influential as Dark Knight Returns and it remains an all-time classic.

Batman: Hush or Superman: For Tomorrow - I hate to admit this, but I've not read For Tomorrow. Hush was good, though.

Superman:Birthright or Man of Steel - Again, I'm sad to say I haven't read Birthright. MoS was fantastic, though.

JB's vision of Superman is the one I prefer. He sees Clark Kent as a true American/man of Earth who just happens to be an "immigrant" from another planet (perhaps mirroring JB's own life's journey). To me, that's how Superman should be portrayed. When Superman is portrayed as an alien in foreign environment, that just loses me.

Catching up:
Hush or For Tomorrow-
Both were pieces of crap; read them as trades thru the library, and I just
couldn't believe that there was such a big deal made about either of
them.
That said, Hush was the least craptacular of the two.

Man of Steel or Birthright-
That, in my view, is insulting. Not only to JB, who streamlined and
redefined the character and mythology, but also to anyone with half a
brain. Again, I read Birthright thru the library, and I was in awe of how
awful it was.
Man of Steel wins by a knockout in the first instant of this fight.

All three of these modern tales (Hush, For Tomorrow, Birthright) are
poster children of the bloat in storytelling (writing for the trades) and the
complete inability for modern artists to tell stories. I read these and was
depressed by them.
"This is as good as it gets?"

Man of Steel by a huge Grand Canyon-type crevice separating it from Birthright.
