Feel free, always, to explain your choices!

Today's question: Which do you prefer, Marvel or DC?

I grew up on Marvel, but the great shift for me occurred in the late 90's and most of the books I currently purchase are DC.  I still have more connection to the Marvel Characters, but most of them are now too far removed from the versions that I like to enjoy them.  I think DC is putting out better product across the board now.

I'm not currently reading anything from anybody.

As a kid, I was a total Marvelite. The last 2-3 years, tho, I've favored DC by a wide margin.

No-one anymore. But until the late 80's it was Marvel by a wide margin.

I started out with DC as a kid and found that I just couldn't get into
Marvel at all. Somewhere along the way, presumably after the short time I
spent away from comics (still a kid though), the opposite seemed to
occur. I think this had something to do with the very different and
distinct 'vibe' I got from both houses that made one totally alien to the
other.

By the late '80s and well into the mid '90s, I was reading and enjoying
offerings from both sides- which I put down to the fact that I'd started to
follow writers and artists more by that point and the house 'styles'
seemed to be a bit more in step with each other.

Another break found me buying a bit of both again when I finally
returned, but I drifted out of regular comic buying about two and a half
years ago and tend to pick up trades of anything that looks good now.

Mad ramble over and back to your question- I guess I'd have to go with
DC at the minute- if only for All Star Superman.

edited for stupidity.

I was always a Marvel kid.  I just liked the look of the Marvel characters more.  Until Firestorm came along, there weren't any DC heroes (in my small exposure) that had the same ZING for me as Spider-Man, The Human Torch, or the relaunched X-Men.  Well, I was familiar with Metamorpho but not much.

The closest DC got to getting me was the Wolfman-Perez Teen Titans.  Cyborg was so cool.

Despite having my favorite superhero, Superman, DC loses out to Marvel. I'll always find the Hulk, Silver Surfer, Wolverine, Namor, Spider-Man, Thor, Thing, Capt. America, and various other much more interesting than DC's roster. Other than Superman, Batman, and Capt. Marvel, I can't think of a DC character I get excited about.

I have to agree with Kevin on the Teen Titans by Wolfman/Perez. And if every DC book was as good as JB's Superman, I'd be a DC Devotee.

I started out with Marvel and DC at the same time, but now I buy purely DC Comics. The Marvel I hear about now is not one I am interested in buying.

At least DC still believes in having a few real editors and writers.

DC for me, see?

I owe my allegiance to them because the first comic I bought, at age three,  was an issue of Superman

I've read more than my fair share of both, through the decades, though, I consider myself a DC man.

Pretty much, the only stuff I buy these days is All-Star Superman, and the Showcase volumes (and, occasionally, an Essentials)

I've always been about 99% Marvel.  I think I bought Detective Comics for a couple years in the 90's, but otherwise it's been all Marvel.  I buy about 3 or 4 monthly titles now.

For the first six years, I bought almost exclusively Marvel. I bought an occasional issue of Superman or Teen Titans, but the stories just didn't seem to do it for me. The X-Men and Spider-man were much more exciting.

Then, in 1986, DC re-did their flagship character with one of my favorite artists drawing and writing him. (Perhaps you've heard of him: John Byrne) So I quickly bought Superman and Action on a regular basis. From there I expanded to Batman, Nightwing, the JLA and the Titans.

Nowadays there are things both companies have done that I don't like.  But there are some good things as well. Probably the best books Marvel have right now are She-Hulk and Ms. Marvel.  I think these writers know their characters and respect the history.

Short answer: I'm still a Marvel Zombie.

In this moment? DC. And the DCU, especially Superman, has had a big role in my life in these last years (guess who wrote the only Superman guide here in Italy? And sust some month later I become coworker of the Italian series).

But Italy is a "Marvel country", and like most of our readers, I have been a Marvel fan for years. Hey, I still love the characters, what I dislike are the stories!
